Great Flop, Bad Run (tourney)

BAD BEAT

I was dominated, but flipped the domination when I flopped my pair. However, a great turn card and a deadly river card crushed me. I was a 77% favorite on the flop and turn.

Nut Flush Gives Me Boat (cash)

GOOD BEAT

I was worried my opponent had flopped a made straight. But he was checking to me instead of betting out, so I sensed that he wasn't scared about anyone on a flush draw. So I figured he might have top pair, two pair or maybe he was the one on a draw. It turned out he was on a nut flush draw and he ended up hitting it on the river. Fortunately, it gave me a full house. I've been on the other end of this so I know exactly how he felt when the chips moved away from him.

Set Versus Big Stack (tourney)

GOOD BEAT

I was a little shocked that this could happen. Apparently, one can sometimes give the big stack a bad beat.

I'm the Big Stack (tourney)

GOOD BEAT

I finally get to take advantage of being the big stack and dished out a really bad beat.  I'm telling you, I think there's something about being the big stack that alters the algorithms in PokerStars.

Flush/Straight Draw v Two Pair (tourney)

QUIZ

On the turn with all the money in, who is the favorite and what are the percentages?

The two pair is a favorite: 68% v 32%.

Four Aces (cash)

I didn't get paid off on this hand, but it's not often you get quad aces. I list it here just so I can remember that it's happened.

Laying Down Queens (cash)

LAYDOWN

I'm not sure if my opponent had kings, aces or jacks, but with such an aggressive re-raise and bet on the flop, I decided to lay these babies down.

Just Takes a Pair on the River (tourney)

BAD BEAT

My opponent was just a 14% dog on the turn. It's discouraging when beats happen on the river. Why not get it over with on the flop?

Allowing a Flush Due to Fear (cash)

BAD BEAT

Here's a perfect example of trying to trap an opponent and then allowing fear to overtake your master plan. The two jacks on the turn scared me from check-raising and then I allowed my opponent to catch his flush. Finally, I was dumb enough to call his bet. Don't allow this to happen.

Rivered Beats (tourney)

BAD BEAT

I worked this hand to get my opponent all-in and then he caught me on the river. My final hand also got me on the river. When these kind of hands happen during a tourney, your chances are slim that you'll survive. Interestingly, I was just a 55% favorite on the turn on the last hand.

One Outer Pain (cash)

BAD BEAT

I finally took the one-out beat. I was hoping I would be the one that would give it instead of taking it, but unfortunately it went the other way around. Oddly, the villain had a remarkable run of luck during his session and this is only one of his lucky beats. He was just a 2.27% dog on the turn.

Set Over Kings (cash)

GOOD BEAT

Oh the joy of giving a bad beat. I knew my opponent had a big hand the way he check-raised on the flop. I wasn't sure if I should just call his turn bet, but decided to just push it in and hope for a call. It's tough to laydown pocket kings so I figured a check-raise would help him call.
